Goljan Path
8/29/2006
This is the single most useful and board relevant book on the market. I had the pleasure of using this text in accompaniment with Dr. Goljan's audio lectures from a review course. The two resources, audio and text, proved to be invaluable in both building my confidence and ability to disect the USMLE Step I exam. Additionally, the images used in the text and referenced in the audio lectures were in fact the very same pictures I saw on my test. I must clarify, however, the audio lectures are not sold with the text. They can, however, be found on the web for those who are really interested.
The text organizes and describes in a few sentences salient points that seem to be wholly absent from the much larger and more daunting Robbins. Furthermore, the text comes equiped with a rapid review CD-ROM full of about 300 questions. They are excellent questions with explanations that are more thorough and thought provoking than Kaplan's Qbank. I felt as though this text was better than the BRS-Pathology though some may disagree. In my own opinion, Goljan is more concise and emphasizes the board relavent material more so than BRS. Although it is not and should not be used as a stand alone text, in conjunction with Robbins, First Aid, and Kaplan Qbank, you should feel very well prepared to tackle the pathology, pathophysiology, and even microbio-pathology questions.

Its a great book with images. I have this for quite long time.. But now that another rapid review had come in (blue cover), I prefer that over this book. Because it has more pages and more images. But I have found that this book has all the answers for the patho questions that I have come across so far!
If someone doesnt have time to go over another rapid review (blue cover) I would definitely recommend it!
Too much hype

I found this book absolutely useless for the purpose of USMLE. Old, outdated and crammed with never tested facts. This is a textbook after all. BRS Pathology is the best book for quick comprehensive review. Don't worth money nor time.
Only reviewing the CD portion

I've only used the CD questions, and so this will be limited to that portion.
The questions are very helpful, good clinical stories with memorably difficult questions that help keep issues in mind longterm. That said, the CD is really poorly designed, and the formatting of the exam is quite poor. If you finish taking an exam, and want to review the ones you got incorrect, it almost always has errors in which ones you got "wrong" as well as how many. There's also no memory, so you cant select questions you havent done yet, which is a problem if any section has more than 50 questions, b/c that's the max you can set the exam for....so I dont know how you're supposed to get around that.
That said, the questions there are great. It's better than a pre-test version of the material, color pictures are very helpful, normally excellent explanations of issues. Would be a 4 or 5 star product (the CD) if there was some better organization of the technology
